When Blake Corum went down against Illinois last year, it sucked the air out of the Big House. He was arguably the most talented player on the field and a huge reason for Michigan’s success. The team knew going forward that in order to win down the stretch, everyone was going to have to play at their absolute best.
With the Wolverines coming up short of a national title, it was on everybody’s mind if they would see Corum in Michigan jersey again. When Corum announced on The Rich Eisen Show he would be returning for his senior season, coaches and fans alike knew they were going to have all the pieces needed for another championship run.
Corum had a huge impact for the Wolverines this season, leading the team with over 1,000 yards rushing and 24 touchdowns. Another successful season has led to many more accolades, including being named 2023 Comeback Player of the Year.
Corum is joined by Holy Cross linebacker Jacob Dobbs and Virginia running back Mike Hollins as recipients of the award. He is the second Wolverine to take home the award since its origination in 2018, with the first being Aidan Hutchinson in 2021.
For as good of a junior season Corum had, he had an even better senior season. He rushed for 1,028 yards and 24 touchdowns, the latter of which is a U-M record and leads the country this year. He is also the first player with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons for Michigan since Denard Robinson in 2010-11, and he’s the third player during the Jim Harbaugh era to be named a First-Team All-American in consecutive seasons, joining Jake Butt and Jourdan Lewis in 2015-16.
With Michigan headed to Pasadena for their Rose Bowl matchup against Alabama, there is more work to be done. Regardless of Michigan’s postseason outcome, Corum has cemented himself as a Michigan legend.
