Ole Miss head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin has been named as a possible candidate to replace Kellie Harper at Tennessee. Harper was recently fired after five seasons at the helm of the storied Knoxville program.
The Knoxville News Sentinel listed McPhee-McCuin as a name to monitor as the university conducts its search. She was listed among the newspaper’s second tier of candidates under the heading “coaches on the rise.” The newspaper’s first tier was under the heading “swing for the fences.”
The newspaer said of McPhee-McCuin: “Coach Yo built a strong SEC program at Ole Miss, and she’s one of the rising stars in women’s basketball. She has led the Rebels to three straight NCAA Tournaments and has had a 72-27 record the last three seasons. Ole Miss beat Tennessee this season for the first time in McPhee-McCuin’s tenure.
Ole Miss desperately needed to attack the cornerback position this offseason and the Rebels knew it well before the 2023 season. That’s exactly what they did when they brought in four potential starters to help fill the void left by Deantre Prince and Zamari Walton.
Among those four players was former Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun and Alabama Crimson Tide member Trey Amos. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound corner spent three seasons with the Cajuns before transferring to Alabama for a year. The Rebels won Amos’ commitment in mid-January, giving Ole Miss 247Sports’ No.7 available corner and No. 44 overall available transfer in this year’s cycle.
